As part of the “Green Clean” trend, many articles talk about cleaning your home with only water instead of using household cleaning chemicals. These articles usually focus on the use of microfiber cleaning cloths. Microfibers, made from polyester and nylon, typically are 10 to 50 times thinner than a human hair, making them about 3 to 5 microns in diameter. These millions of small fibers in cleaning cloths are able to attach themselves to microscopic dirt particles and bacteria, though not viruses because of their even smaller size. Microfiber cloths can be used with only water, a universal solvent, to effectively clean most household surfaces. While microfiber cloths and water can clean lightly soiled surfaces, a Scrigit Scraper should be used first to clean off thicker spots of dried food and dirt and grimy buildups in edges and corners. Very dirty surfaces still need to be cleaned initially with soap, water and a regular cloth before the microfiber cloth is used for a final cleaning and polishing.
Another cleaning product that works very well using only water is the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. This white sponge is great for cleaning off the dirty smudges and fingerprints that build up on painted doors and walls and light switch plates. It also removes scuff marks on floors. It is really amazing how easily Magic Erasers clean these surfaces, though a Scrigit Scraper is still needed for thicker dirt spots and corners. Keep in mind that these sponges are mildly abrasive and should not be used on high gloss and certain other surfaces. Read the package warnings.
So if you want to follow the “Green Clean” trend by cleaning with water instead of cleaning chemicals, then use microfiber cleaning cloths, Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, and Scrigit Scrapers.
